Let’s see those casebacks!

It’s my favorite, so yet again another picture of the UNIMATIC

Not the prettiest yes, but if you ever misplace your phone and need to convert km to miles to knots... Just pop round the aerospace caseback!

The most boring of all: an unengraved DateJust. It's like white bread on white bread.

While I no longer have it, I did love my Oris Great Barrier Reef LE caseback and I'm glad I have a pic of it.

Somehow the second time I've had reason to post this retro-futuristic Lima Meca Revolt today:

Haven't fully warmed to the entire watch, but the back of this Houtman is delightful:

Display backs aren't a priority for me, since I don't buy watches with truly luxe movements. But I don't mind when makers put in extra effort. Here, Wise has decorated with a range of pattern and texture: sandy, glittery, rigid stripes. When viewed through an overall Damascus pattern, it works well:

Simple overall, the etched geometric lines and bold logo leap out of the Tissot Visodate's mirror caseback. I prefer their more modern designs, but goddamn I love that vintage logo version:

The Zelos Aurora Ti sees the previous relief 🦘 and raises a whole ⛵. Fantastic nod to the spirit of exploration:

Image

... But not quite as fantastic a nod as the Nivada-Grenchen Super Antarctic. It's hard to express how well they nailed every element of the design on this one. You take in the front, turn it over, and get blown away again:

Ultimately, there are many thousands of great caseback treatments out there. That said, as the Promaster Tough shows us, sometimes the best caseback is none:
