Orient to release Mako 20th anniversary edition

Limited edition release to celebrate 20 years of the Orient Mako. 41.8mm diameter, 46.8mm lug to lug, 12.8mm thickness. Price tag at an eye-popping £425! Seiko "Save the Ocean" vibes but not as effective to my eyes, the Mako always having been a dressy sort of diver.

I am not usually a big limited edition person, but this Orient could be an exception.

·

That is a good looking watch. The price is a bit up there for an Orient but not outrageously so. With 3000 being made they should not be to hard to get if you really want one.

·

I've liked Orient because they've been known for well made, affordable watches. But it's looking like they're taking from Seiko, including hiking their prices.

·

$550 for a Mako?! Hell no!

Please, Orient, don't become Seiko 2.0 with the limited editions and price hikes... 😭

Orient is owned by Seiko so this isn't surprising in many ways.

I agree, that's too much for an Orient diver. They should be affordable because that's what the brand is about unless it's an Orient star. Doesn't matter to me if it's a limited edition or not.

·

Orient Kamasu still available for under £200. Several Citizen Promasters at around the same price.

·

The Kamasu is identical, same specs, same case, same bracelet, for <$250. That's the normal and fair price for this line of divers.

And, please, "in-house" movement, we're talking about a rebadged $35 Epson movement here. Let's get real, in-house is just a worthless buzzword. This is a throwaway movement not worth the service cost.

·

Citizen own Miyota so I would consider it so.

·

Fair enough. At this end of the market I’m not sure why it makes a difference though.

·

I love the mako ii. First mechanical watch purchase. $140 at the time.

·

Only the biggest Orient fans will buy this at retail. I assume this is going to be manufactured in a lot fewer numbers.

·

They do and please disclose who is better. Citizen?

Agreed. An obvious cash grab.

·

Sorry I thought you did.

·

I don't agree they all are and no I don't. Watchmakers have to make money and there are production costs as well as other factors such as the volume involved. However, limited editions like this can be.

·

That's a very cool dial! Nice work by #orient for the 20th anniversary edition of the Mako

·

I missed this... Yes, it's far more expensive (Entry Orient Star Territory)... but for an LE in this configuration, I will buy second-hand if necessary, but I'm a sucker for the 6, 9, 12.

·

Hmm, gotta see the watch in person... Somehow this pic n the price isn't doing it for me... N I Lourve my blue Mako II!! 😁 Got it in pristine new condition years back for 130 bucks... Been my daily mostly ever since. 🤗💖
