I am considering purchasing a mechanical watch, my issue is like the way I normally find myself staring at my quartz watch and admiring the movement, will I at some point when I purchase a mechanical watch get annoyed with the winding when it stops or will I get used to it.
Or in short what is that feeling of obtaining a mechanical watch ⌚
I had the opposite thought when I got my first mechanical. I hated changing Watch batteries. It’s easy to wind it up (mechanical) or just move it around (automatics).
Everyone has a different feeling about watches but it’s pretty cool to have something that works without battery, electricity, or a circuit board.
I know I can get annoyed, especially if I’m in a rush so winding / shaking my watch would be a hassle. So I just grab a quartz. So having a mix in yer collection is nice
There are several factors.
Will you be wearing the same watch most days?
Are we talking a time-only watch, or something with date, maybe day, or even moon phase?
Assuming automatic (I'd recommend hand wind myself) are you reasonably active or do you sit at a desk for most of the day and walk very little?
Just how crazy would people say you are?
Similarly, how obsessive are you about time accuracy?
Do you want to throw money at an electric gizmo and strap your watch to it?
For a time only watch, one must be very lazy, unless they are nutty about being set to the exact second all the time. On the flip side, the old Seiko 5 models are a total white elephant because you can't hand wind them and they all have day/date displays. I have to wear mine a bit everyday and it is a chore, like walking a dog. Yes, I could pull and crank the crown and all, and hope I have the AM/PM right, but I find that an even bigger chore.
I often make the comparison between standard (mechanicals) and automatic (quartz) cars.
Having to shift gears and the feeling you control your automobile can be thrilling and can make the experience very fun. On the other hand if you are stuck for hours in traffic having to push that clutch pedal all the time can be boring and stressful. Same goes with a mechanical automatic watch. You could feel more connected to it because it feels "alive" and needs you to be in charge my mouvement or winding them but if you don't wear it much it can be annoying to set it once again. I like and enjoy both. I prefer having my solar quartz during the week for work etc because I'm certain that it will be on time etc not having to worry about it not working or moving when I need it. On evenings and weekends I prefer having an automatic I take pleasure in winding and set it. Both are amazing I just think they have different significations or utility for different people. Maybe try to get a automatic that has a long reserve like 6r Seiko (70 hours) or some have 80 hours so they can keep moving on a few days.
Automatic watches tend to be more fragile and will eventually need services but this all depends if you want something that will last for a very long time. I hope you can find a good one for your taste!

Don't hesitate if you have any questions!
Get a watch winder if you can’t deal with a stopped watch.
