New Ming 37.09 Bluefin

Ming just announced the 37.09 Bluefin with a couple of teaser pictures. It's a 600m compressor style dive watch using a 37 series case with a display caseback. Full pictures of the watch are to be released on May 23, and existing customers will be able to order it then, 24 hours ahead of the public.

Price : 4950 CHF

I'm very intrigued by it since it's Ming's first compressor style watch, second dive watch, and it's in the 37 case, which I love. I'm especially wondering whether they will make it a manual wind watch since every model in this line has had a manual wind movement

I'm however glad it's way out of my price range, that way I avoid any FOMO 😅

At first glance, it doesn't tickle my fancy as much as the 17.09 dial does.

I got the email too. I am quite excited about this one as I have been looking at blue watches recently!

That said, I sure hope or doesn't use the same SW210 movement as the 37.07 which was 30% or so cheaper. Almost 2000€ for a rotating bezel seems a bit much. Seeing how it's 600m WR I am also a bit worried about what the thickness will be and what it will do to the 37 case.

Yeah I'm wondering the same things

I don't really see what movement they could use since the price is inbetween movement tiers (too expensive for a SW210, not expensive enough for something like a Schwarz Etienne movement). That being said I really wouldn't be surprised if they put in a SW210 since they were already advertising the 37.07 as a sports watch and selling it on a rubber strap. The price would however be hard to justify unless there's much more to the dial than what's been hinted so far

How thin the 37 case looks is kind of what makes its appeal so it'd be a shame if this one were much thicker. The large dial opening of the 37 case however makes sense for a compressor style since there's an inner bezel

Guess we'll have the answers soon 🤷

When y'all say 37 case that means "38mm diameter, 44.5mm lug-to-lug" ? I Love the ming design, and I most likely will be placing the order for a bluefin if offered.

So far all the 37-series watch shared the exact same dimensions so I guess so

This one is an auto though so it might be a bit thicker

I just updated the post with photos of the watch which where posted on forumamontres. I'm guessing those will be out in 12min anyway

I wasn't a big fan of the hands of the previous 37-series models but these being noticeably thinner I find them much better

The watch is .9mm thicker than previous models but considering how thin the previous ones looked when worn (the domed crystal adds a lot to the specs) I wouldn't worry too much about it

I really like the internal bezel but I'm not sure how I like the fact that the 'floating' indices are pushed towards the center of the dial, it looks kind of weird in the pictures

Also the crowns are a bit too big for my taste (they're as big as the ones on standard 37 models but since there are two...)

Overall a really nice release, but I'm a bit skeptical about the price

That blue looks REALLY nice in the renders though

Order placed 🙂

It does look chonkier than my 37.07 but I won't lie, I like it a lot. That said, it looks much nicer than what I consider the closest mainstream competitor in the Longines legend diver in my opinion. That watch houses a similar movement at a similar thickness, is similarly styled with the inner bezel... BUT with 1/3 of the WR and a much less interesting dial.

Is it worth what they are asking. Hell, no. Do I want it regardless. Unfortunately I do. I may be able to convince myself to stay away as they only seem to offer one strap length which most likely is too long for me 🙃

Please excuse the smudge.

Yeah it's an upgrade in every way IMO

It probably wears much thinner than the 12.8mm indicate but the curved caseback might make it not hug the wrist as well as if it had a flat one

I'm not sure how the length of the strap would be a problem since it has a keeperless design but I do understand the need to have an excuse not to purchase it 😂

If there is too much to tuck underneath then it may become an annoyance to put on and possibly uncomfortable to wear. Ming say it's comfortable but how could they not. This mechanism works beautifully with soft leather lined straps but rubber against rubber is sticky so it's quite hard to take off.

The rounded caseback, and somewhat surprisingly so, doesn't seem to be an issue for me. Other 37 cases also have it and it doesn't bounce around at all. I can't properly wear Rolex over 36mm because of the protrusion but the Ming doesn't bounce around. I was a bit surprised.

I do need a reason not to buy this because I was seriously considering a blue Aqua Terra 38 on the rubber but Omega have butchered my SMP 300 bezel when they had it for service. I really liked that naturally faded bezel (unscathed, near impossible to replace) and told them to leave it alone and so now I am rather mad at them. This 100% fits the bill for about the same money and is more unique... and I want a cool blue watch on a rubber band.

The original white strap that came on my 37.07 was keeper less and it tucked under the buckle side. It was a major PITA, it was hard to put on and hard to remove especially if you have a hairy wrist like mine. I replaced it with a delugs strap with a clasp. But the flaws in the strap did not stop me from placing the order. The 37.07 design is awesome, when the lume is charged it is spectacular but lasts only a few seconds, and the movement is a beauty. The manual wind has a nice crunch to it, and it so satisfying to wind it up in the mornings. Now I have something to look forward to till Oct.

Nice watch but prefer the 18.01 H1 as it’s a so iconic from a design perspective- but I do like this second diver from MING

I feel pretty much the same about my 37.07, the white rubber in general is quite bad in my opinion. Mine's gotten stains on the end that's tucked in, presumably from the black lining that it rubs against. I also placed an order for the Bluefin, I hope the dial is as nice as it is in the images.
