Does the Second Hand Hit the Markers?

No;

Do I give a damn?

No;

I just got a lucky angle for the photos, so it looks like the alignment is good, but really it is off by a smidge when looking directly down at the dial. Yes this is still a $300 USD watch, even with grey market discounts, but I think it is still important to have the right mindset when buying a quartz watch. Some automatics from big brands can’t even have proper alignment of the hour markers, bezels, etc for much higher priced pieces, so I try to remember to have the right expectations when I buy new pieces.

Believe me, I would love if the seconds hand hit all of the markers dead-on, 100% of the time, but I am much too busy looking at that fantastic dial finishing, and of course the case and bracelet finishing to even remotely care about the seconds hand.

This used to be a deal breaker for me, since I have been extremely “lucky?” In the past with all of my Quartz watch purchases, and all of them had great seconds hand alignment. One of those watches even had a Swiss-made Quartz movement as well, not an ETA like the PRX , but a Rhonda, which are still held to high standards in the community—this was a Shinola quartz chronograph that I have since sold. It set my standard high for Quartz because not only did the small running seconds hand have perfect alignment, but also the chronograph seconds hand. I have had Miyota Quartz calibers perform equally as well, just not with a chronograph complication.

Either way, my days of worrying about seconds hands on quartz watches are over. As long as the dang thing keeps time, and I can’t hear the tick from across town, then I am a happy camper.

Where I would expect to see a little more QA would be on extremely minimal quartz watches, where there really isn’t much else to look at other than the dial markers and hands, but I am not into minimal watches, and still I’m sure there are other aspects of the minimalist watches that could distract you from a misaligned seconds hand.

Happy Sunday!

Regardless if it is a $20 watch or $2000 brand name or unknown.. Some thing as simple as hands aligning with indices is a must for me ( I can live with dates jumping few minutes past mid night ). This is an inherent problem with quartz watches, but if you took the trouble to make a mechanical watch, I want that attention to basics.

I used to ride in the same boat, but have found my peace with it 🫡 to each their own though. If you stare hard enough, or with the right set of eyes you can find fault in many things well above and below a $2000 price point. Once the naked eye goes away and you bring out loupes and microscopes, I am much more forgiving, as are most people, but I’m done trying to find “perfect” watches. I’d end up returning everything I buy after a while.

This is a deal breaker for me, I don’t have that many quartz watches however if the makers can figure it out I pass

I have never understood the "thing" some people have with requiring the seconds hand to perfectly align with the markers. The two main uses for the seconds hand are to see the watch is running, and setting the time accurately, neither of those uses require the hand to land on all the markers.

Still finding my peace with misaligned chapter rings, it's definitely a journey and you learn a lot about your tastes and eye.

There are some things that once seen can't be unseen.

But I could forgive a lot with that dial.

No matter how hard I stare at it, it won’t fix itself, so I better get used to it 😂

I would wager that more $20 Casios do not hit their markers vs ones that do, but without a huge data set it’s impossible to know.
