A nice talk at the department store.

My brother and I went to a nearby department store because he wanted to pick up a Citizen Tsuyosa. I was taking a look and tried on a Seiko Speedtimer.

We had a nice talk with the saleswoman about Seikos and Citizen. She then told us that those watches weren't selling at all. People go for Hugo Boss, Michael Kors, etc. even showing some disappointment. She then jokingly said, that she didn't think that we would buy one of them anytime soon.

So, my brother got his Tsuyosa and we had a funny buying experience.

Do you have some nice (or not-so-nice) stories to tell?

So I went into a multi brand watch boutique last weekend. They had Rolex, Omega, Hublot, Zenith and a few other brands. Anyways, I walked in and asked to speak to a Rolex salesperson....basically wanted to ask how long it would take to order the Jubilee for my Wimbledon. The lady at the entrance tells me to sit down, I comply. I took stock of my surroundings; some guy was looking at various pieces. A father and son were seated in the Omega section, the Omega sales dude spinning tales about Omega's moon escapades etc. (I think...I couldn't hear the sales bro) After what felt like 5 mins, the lady comes back and tell me that there is no Rolex person and that I had to take an appointment next week if I still wanted my Q answered . I told her thank you and walked out..... As i closed the door, I stole a glance at the Omega desk where the sales bro looked like he was was about to close the deal. Good on ya Omega.

Thats one way to loose a customer. Thanks for sharing your experience.

What a sad way to treat a customer.

Thank you for the story, I enjoyed it. I wish I had one of my own. There are not many stores at all left where I live that sell watches. Almost all of my buying is off the internet, which has its upsides and downsides.

However, there is a very good family-owned jewelry shop with watchmakers that is just 35 minutes from my house. They are a Citizen dealer and also have vintage watches for sale. I've seen Rolex, Heuer, and Patek there.

I also bought quite a few watches online, it has the benefit of discounts and better availability.

But it's just sometimes worth it to see what you're buying in the metal. I also enjoy good customer service, there are some fun interactions there as well. When I bought my Exod Les Vauberts Open Heart in a boutique, I told them that I thought that a watch looked way better in person than in a picture, the way the light reflects and all of that.

They were just looking at me with a confused face and told me, that I was the first person to ever say that.

And, boutiques and department stores can have those discounts as well.
