How well made are Rolex?

Love watches but - perhaps embarrassingly!- never seen a Rolex up close. Is the step up in quality great from say Tudor? Would an Explorer be much better finished than a Ranger? Would the movement etc be more accurate? Same for a submariner versus black bay? Be interested to hear.

I prefer Rolex but both are well made. Get them on your wrist and compare/contrast both. I know many people who own and enjoy both. Ignore the Rolex hate if you find them appealing and you appreciate them for what they are.

I have owned multiple of both brands. I would say Tudor quality is very close, however more tool and purpose oriented. The Rolexes are more polished and seem to be more business oriented. I have kept a couple of each brand. In my personal collection I have the Pelegos 39 and Black Bay Pro, which i believe fit more my lifestyle than the Submariner and Explorer 2 that I had. You can’t really go wrong with either brand.

Just in the slightest. About a 10-20% to the naked eye. But something like grand seiko feels nearly 50% better

Rolex is definitely shiner and more polished. I love my Tudor Ranger.

In all honesty I don't own a loupe and my eyesight isn't a good as it used to be so I really struggle to see a quality difference.

The Tudor Ranger is a nice watch. But honestly, the finish on the Explorer is next level (I don’t own either but tried them both on in the past 12 months)

I think Tudor produces fantastic watches. The black bag GMT is one of my favorite watches. But my personal opinion is that Rolex does feel a step above Tudor.

That’s really interesting. What is the area that is most obviously better finished? Polishing? Face? Bracelets? Or the lot?! Seen some beautiful examples online but not up close.

Finishing, especially the hands,, handling the movement, the colors, hour markers, all definitely feel a bit better

It's hard to explain if you don't see them in person. I always looked at pictures and thought what is the big deal, until I handled them in person

Interesting question.

My Air King feels superior to everything else in my watch box. From the thickness (or lackthereof), to the flawless polishing, the perfect brushing, the sublime white gold numerals, the exceptional lume. Just everything is that bit better than everything else.

It is, however, marginal gains. No one thing is vastly better, rather everything is just a little better.
