Why would you ever leave it out...? (Besides quartz battery saving) Crowns have gaskets to keep out dust and water for a reason...
Especially in long term storage leaving your crown out could result in moisture intrusion, leading to oxidation of the dial, movement and hands. This is usually not noticeable in the first year or so, but it will do damage in the long run, especially if you live in a damp/humid climate.
I assume you are talking about Quartz watches. There's pretty much no reason to leave the crown out. If you aren't going to wear the watch for an extended period, then remove the battery.

Its pointless to pull the crown out for down time, quartz included

Never leave crown out, unless your watch is in a hermetically sealed watchbox!! For reasons stated by everyone else.....👍🏻
Sure, leave that crown out. And wait for humidity to creep into your case.
