I NEED THE YOUR HELP!

So this is a Dubey & Schaldenbrand Index Mobile Rattrapante Chronograph. A beautiful gold plaqué chrono. It has a open caseback, something I‘ve never seen on a vintage piece, and, of course, a rattrapante complication.

The price is 1800 CHF. I have never bought a vintage watch over 1000, quite a big step in price for me, but it wouldn‘t really hurt my wallet :) Should I buy it? I‘ll revisit my local watch dealer tomorrow to make a final decision!

I don’t know anything about this particular model. That said, you’re right, an open case back is highly unusual for any vintage chrono of this design and era so would ring alarm bells for me unless there are many other well documented examples with open case backs.

Gold plaqué is just French for gold plated - why is the dealer trying to dress that up/hide it in the description?

My general rule with vintage watches is “do a ton of research and trust no-one, espeically dealers.”

Hmm. Can you share movement shot? If the movement is good (and looks reasonably authentic), yes. I mean, rattrapante movement is never cheap, so it's unlikely you get a bad deal.

Seems to be on the higher end of the price range for this watch, but if you trust the watch dealer, I’d say go for it! Beautiful and special watch.

I love D&S ! Those watches are functional art.
