I built my own Explorer AirKing mashup…

The first photo is from my DIY Watch build. Nice watch, skeleton, NH36, 38mm, display back too. If you’ve seen any of my other posts you may remember that I’ve been looking for something like an AirKing or an Explorer without spending 7.5k USD at a minimum for new and waiting an unknown amount of time. Or going used but spending even more.

So what the hell, bought the dial and hands on AliExpress ~$20 total and after wait an inordinate amount of time this is what I made. I’m okay with the dial saying Seiko, it is a Seiko movement after all .

What do the Crunchers think?

That explorer is awesome!

Looks great!

That's a good looking watch. The pop of color with the second hand is pure beauty.

Looks like the minute marks on the chapter ring and the dial align. You got lucky in that regard.😉

Nice build!

Super good looking watches! I've just become familiar with the notion of modding in the last few months. The Seiko explorer, is that a watch you modified? If so, can you please share the details.

The skeleton is a standard DIY Watch club build, surprisingly good quality! I bought an Explorer type dial and the hands on AliExpress. That specific dial is from DH-Watch mod store, $12.60. The dial is for an NH35/36 at 28.5mm with Seiko logo, I don’t mind the logo as I stated. Hands from Miuksi for NH35, $9.25. Pretty easy to swap out. Only hard part is putting the second hand back. It’s very tiny and if you put it in wrong you can break or bend the post.

Of course you don’t have to start with the DIY, you can buy all the components separately, this movement is <$25 on Ali, (well worth it) cases all over the place, price and style, hundreds of options, crowns too. Have fun. Check YouTube for mod’ing demos.
