I recently took my Skx out backpacking, so I figured I’d take the opportunity to make a post!
I wanted to make a mod that stayed true to the original Skx design, but upgraded the specs.
Also, I started with a full oem watch head, so the watch can be reverted to oem at any time.
With that being said, here’s the mod list.
Slim coin edge bezel
Lumed ceramic bezel insert
Flat slim sapphire crystal with clear ar
Hacking/handwinding NH36
Double gasket crown
Slim brushed caseback
The final watch is super thin (less than 12mm) and includes all of the modern specifications. I have a few different strap/bracelet options but my favorite is an oyster bracelet that best compliments the tool watch look in my opinion.
All of the parts were bought off AliX, so the price remained low. I got the original oem watch head for 200, and all the mods cost 100 for anyone who is wondering.
In the future I’d love to find an oem Skx173 dial. I think the square indices are super cool, very reminiscent of a pelagos.

My favorite part is how slim it is. That looks so good!
Great upgrades! 💪
The slim caseback is such a game-changer for the SKX! Especially on straps and NATOs, it wears much better.
Yeah, square indices would be the business 👍👍

I agree! I think that honestly the slim bezel makes a way bigger difference than the caseback, although the caseback definitely helps
