Lorus quartz battery replacement

Daughter asked if I could put a battery in it. Caseback was so tight, I slipped and cut my thumb. 😭Put the battery in, second hand ticking away.

Next day it had stopped, and I couldn't see the second hand👀 Did I imagine it? Removed movement and I saw the second hand fall out,

it was wedged against the minute hand. Tried to refit it, oddly it wasn't the normal fitment, it was a male post, as opposed to being a tube. . Not seen that before? Put it back, pressed it down, couldn't be secured. Gave up.

Tried to refit the caseback, never had such difficulty😱 Tried both my Aliexpress tool and my elderly Stella, no joy. Then realised that the caseback was no longer flat, had pushed so hard, it was now concave. Rectified that. Finally got it back together using a small hand vice, and a 19mm socket😱 Protecting the glass with a newspaper between it and the vice jaw. Went in easily😉 What a PITA. Made far worse as the glass was not recessed, and the flange around it is only about 0.4mm thickness, so I worried about breaking the glass.

Problem solving is such fun! The average mook would miss out on all this adventure and "just buy a new watch."
