It’s the little things

The Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical is generally accepted as a fine watch and rightfully so for many reasons, but I’m not here to wax lyrical about a watch that has been talked about endlessly before, I’m here to talk about the little things that give me joy when I put this on my wrist.

For a little context I purchased this on a metal bracelet a few years ago as a summer beater, something light and comfortable that I could wear carefree. The bracelet came off pretty quickly as although it’s a quality bracelet, the blasted finish and the white dial made for a pretty anemic look. I usually wear this on a bund or Marine Nationale as both work well with the long lugs.

On with the point of my post. There are three little details that really make me happy when I wear this watch, and the first of these is the printed markers on the dial 👇

I don’t know if these stand out as much on other dial variants of the watch, but the way these glossy black Arabic’s catch the light is something I really appreciate, and I don’t think I have another printed dial that does this qiute as well.

The second item on my small list of ‘loves’ is the dome of the crystal 👇

This isn’t an unusual feature for a watch, nor is this the most ‘domage’ you will see, but for me again it is one of those little details that keep this watch on my wrist.

The third little thing is the feel and sound of the watch when winding. It makes the sweetest clicking sound when wound and the feel is as smooth as butter. I have 2 hand wound watches and the sense of engagement I get when I have to interact and wind them is very pleasing to me and gives me a moment to enjoy the piece before I have even put it on my wrist.

That’s it, thanks if you made it this far. This hasn’t been a watch review, but a post about the little things on a particular watch that make me happy. My question to you now is what ‘little things’ on a particular watch make you happy? I’m not talking about spec’s, I’m talking about the things that only you appreciate in a specific watch, the things that you only notice with time on your wrist.

Thanks for reading

Always wear a seatbelt 👍

I have the Auto and it’s the favorite in my collection. Chose it over the mechanical cause of the water resistance. Otherwise the mechanical is the way to go

Really nice watch and that unusual strap compliments it beautifully 😍

I'm proud to own a black dial version of this watch. It's my first affordable Swiss watch, and I chose a mechanical one because I like traditional and originality. I currently got it on Uncle Strap Bead-Blasted Finished Bracelet, and I am happy to match it as a daily work wear.

That watch-strap combo is awesome!

Im totally with you, I see it very much as a symbiotic relationship. Without someone to pick a watch up, wear it, wind it, it’s just I cold pile of (beautifully engineered) parts. A mechanical is even more demanding as it requires more attention beyond just wear. For me it’s this that elevates a watch into the emotional realm 👍

Classic no frills watch, but beautiful, nonetheless!

·

Love the watch / strap combo! Well done!

·

Love mine too, rarely goes a week out of rotation (on an Erika's Original too!). For me, the thinness is what keeps me coming back - super comfortable and unobtrusive.

This model was the first Hamilton I saw back in the day when I was flying back to Poland from Thailand. There was a shop on the airport with original Hamilton (also other brands) and I was stunned how good this looks 🙄
