What are your thoughts on Steinhart?

I know they are an homage company that has a couple of watches that are direct rips of Rolex models. Advocates have argued that they only rip watch designs whose patents have expired, and the quality makes it much more worth it than a Pagani Design, San Martin, or other AliExpress watch.

What are your thoughts?

I prefer purchasing more original items. Otherwise, why not consider a Pagani Design? It would be much cheaper I guess. Anyway, I believe Steinhart possesses the expertise to create something unique, and it's a pity they haven't done so.

I own one. Wouldn’t buy one again. The quality is rubbish. Extremely inaccurate Sellita movement and the bezel can be turned in both directions 🤦‍♂️

I just use it as a travel watch for unsafe places.

For the same price I would go for other brands. Never ever will I buy one again.

Expensive clomage brand.

I like their "Steve McQueen" Explorer clone, but that's down to Rolex design.

Shame they don't do more of their own designs.

Great watches and good quality in my experience. Never had an issue. Mine all look like Steinharts.

I like the steinhart watch I have, also can’t really find the Rolex it’s homaging 😅the movement is a workhorse and I swam with it in a couple of oceans, can’t really say anything bad. But the last few years with all the Rolex homages I probably wouldn’t have bought one.

I just got my first Steinhart (Ocean One 39). I've owned a fair share of homages. The quality and specs you get for the money is definitely a step above the other homage brands I've tried. I love it!

I chose the Steinhart over Cronos, San Martin, Tisell, etc because of how much watch you get for your money—yes, it's a little pricier than the others but to me the quality/movement are absolutely solid and Steinhart has been doing this homage thing for over 20 years. I haven't had good experience with NH35 microbrands which is also why I went for the Steinhart.

I like them as a brand and I will get one at some point. I reckon a high percentage of for example dive watches are homages. There are few original designs. Steinhart have a few original models and they build a solid product at a good price.

I bought an ocean one 42mm 9 years ago. Amazing bang for buck back then. You simply couldn’t get anything close to it. Genuinely felt like 90% Rolex for 10% of the price. But things have moved on. More and more microbrands producing far better products. I love my Steinhart, i would never discourage anyone getting one, but with the current price rises and no updates to the design at all, I find it hard to recommend them over the competition.

I own a Steinhart (Ocean One 39). It came with a factory-regulated Sellida SW200-1 (elabore grade).

Fit & finish is great.

Even the steel bracelet is well made.

The workmanship as a whole and in detail is top notch. No complaints.

I'm a Steinhart fan. They are well built, and affordable Swiss made watches. All of mine run great (a mix of ETA and Sellita), all but one within COSC spec after years of ownership. In fact, they run better than some of my "original design" watches from heritage brands (I'm looking at you Seiko and Orient).

Some folks are put off by homage watches. I'm not...a good watch is a good watch regardless of the name on the dial or the origin of the design. And despite rumors to the contrary, Steinhart has and does do original designs. The Ocean 2 for instance; however, it doesn't get any love from watch geeks because Steinhart's seen solely as an homage brand.

Bonus: no one has ever mistaken or asked if one of my Steinhart was a Rolex - a common fear of homage watch detractors. But then no one has ever asked if my Rolex was a Rolex either, so there's that!
