I know of at least one good reason which cost my AD a sale of a Heuer Autavia chrono. They had one on display with peeling cloudy plastic that had clearly been removed and put back on a few times and with a leather band that had already bent to the shape of a wrist and had a crease where it had been buckled. I asked if they had a new one and he said this was the only one they had but that it was "new" (meaning full warranty/ fair enough). I haggled but didn't get much of a discount and couldn't bring myself to pay so much for a watch that didn't feel new anymore to me (even with the warranty). If the plastic and strap had still been pristine, it would be in my collection today.

Strange-I'ver never even seen a watch in that price range have any protective plastic. Usually the packing is pretty sparse.
Couple of reasons

Right but it was a window model. I'm not sure if anyone enjoys testing a watch covered in plastic.
