Natural Habitat
Ended 2023 with a muddy hike with my dog wearing my GGB100 Mudmaster and it got me thinking: how many of us enjoy our watches in their intended/“natural” habitat?
I am known to wear chunky Casios with business casual, Timex field watches in the pool with only 50m WR 😱, and dive watches on a jog. I don’t care much about adhering to fashion rules especially with watches. I take care of my watches but also don’t want to be afraid of using them. That said, I do enjoy using a watch in its intended environment. Maybe it makes me feel like the purchase was somehow justified?
How many of you wear watches for specific purposes only and whom among you lives a bit less rigidly like I do?

I get watches with a specific purpose in mind: Bertucci for work and nasty jobs, my Timex with Indiglo for when I’m in a tent with no electricity, my Militado chronograph to time my dog walks, my other Bertucci for a “town watch”.
If the watch says 50m WR, then you’re darn tootin’ I am going to wear it to swim or SNORKEL where I know I won’t be going down more than 8 feet! I expect even 30m WR to survive a dunk in the creek when I slip on a rock, otherwise what’s the point!
I consider all my watches rugged-ish at least, and expect them to perform as I need them to. That’s why I tested my Militado a bit roughly after I got the condensation off of the crystal. I need to know if it’s going to fail, and if it can be trusted.
And just because I can, I sometimes wear my Bertucci A-6A in wet, dirty environments because it’s built to withstand them!
So, yes, I go hiking, backpacking, swimming, gardening, work with oil and molten plastic and hot metal, hang out, etc… and never give the watch a second thought because I got them to withstand that and more!
I use different purposes as roles to cast watches into, but once I bring them on board, I like to mix things up a little bit here and there. All my watches are tool watches though, so my dressiest can come with me while I move irrigation and a big g shock might come with me grocery shopping. I basically just choose big or small watch and g shock or mechanical.
