When I was a kid, I used to ask my grandpa if I could hold his watch.  I was young enough where I didn't know anything about life (let alone watches) and I just loved how it looked/felt and was fascinated with how heavy it was.
He wore a 1970s 36mm Rolex Day-Date President (yellow gold).  It was only in high school that I learned this was an expensive watch and was sort of a "Status" symbol.  But holding this watch always captivated me and - to this day - this is one of my grail watches! I've been a fan of watches ever since!

I've bought on Chrono24 and I've thought about selling on Crown and Caliber (recently purchased by Hondinkee)... they have great customer service and validate all watches
Also - if you're interested in Rolex, Bob's Watches is a good online place to check out!

I love this answer... I just started my watch collection a few years ago and I currently have a Rolex Batman and a Tudor Pepsi... you have good style, my friend!

Great looking watch - what case size is that?

Bark and Jack - I've bought 3 straps from him and they are awesome.  He also answers my questions on social media... I love this guy!

Crown and Caliber, Hodinkee channel, Jenni Elle, Teddy B., Timeless Watch Channel makes me laugh occasionally, Watch Your Style, WatchCrunch w/ Max, Watchfinder & Co., etc.

I'd say 40 or 41mm is perfect.  I have just over a 7 inch wrist.  My first "nice watch" was a Tag Heuer Formula 1 Chrono that I believe is 42 or 43mm... it felt nice at the time, but now I have a Tudor GMT and a Rolex GMT Master II and they are 41 and 40mm, respectively. My father has a 36mm date just and I think I could get one of those some day... I just like that most of my collection is around 40mm size right now.
