Quartz vs Mechanical vs Smartwatch Market Share: Dominance TBD

Just sharing an observation and wondering your opinions on whether traditional watches will be overshadowed by smart watches at some point. Keeping in mind that electronic watches such as G-Shock may also be considered a smartwatch nowadays?

With all of the beautiful watches on this forum, with prices ranging from $10 to $100,000 and the majority of posts reflecting Automatic watches, I was surprised to read in a report that globally, Quartz watches account for 71% of the global market share, while obviously Mechanical/Automatic watches account for 29%..

Smartwatch appear to have the fastest growth and by 2030, will be the very dominant choice. 17% growth rate p/yr. Apple now outsells the entire Swiss Watch market combined., 🤔

The other stat that surprised me was it the AVG watch price spent globally is $250 usd per purchase.

I would note that smartwatches tend to be very pricy, so I imagine most people on the planet can’t afford them. Mechanical watches can be cheaper but are still more expensive than quartz on average. Bottom line, most humans on the planet don’t have extra money to buy sh*t they don’t need which means they aren’t getting a mechanical or smart watch.

100-71 = 29

100-71 = 29

🤔😂🤪 You are correct Sir... See, very confusing topic. Changes made.

I'm guessing it's 71% by dollar volume? If it's unit sales, I'd say closer to 95%.

·

Not sure of the criteria, I assumed unit sales total.

I've owned smartwatches in the past but between phones, tablets and laptops I got sick of the constant charging required. However when someone comes up with a solar powered smartwatch with a good battery, then maybe I'll revisit smartwatches.
