I converted my cat to horology. My work is done here.

I was looking for a microfiber cloth to wipe away the BlingMaster (aka Casio G-Shock GM-S5600), when the many legged creature that haunts my bed at nights (aka SmallCat™), jumped on my knees and with one swift swipe he grabbed it from the table.

Image

I commended him for his good taste in watches, but he became very possessive when I tried to take it back. Let's just hope that his interest won't expand to VC, or God's forbid Rolex, because this will really screw with my purchase plans for the next decade.

He is still angry at me because he fell from the balcony a few days ago and landed in the balcony downstairs. It took me hours to rescue the simpleton because I had to wait for the neighbors to wake up.

Image

Therefore he is now banned from the balcony until I figure how to block him from jumping on the balustrade. A ban which is taken as a personal insult by "he who goes everywhere he likes even if he forgets why once he get there".

Which gave me some peace and quiet when a bit later I went to the balcony to have a coffee. Rescuing the watch was a piece of cake once I complimented the idiot on his nice glossy coat and told him how handsome he is. Cats are very vain and easily distracted.

Image

However, this didn't improve the legibility of the GM-S5600 display, and despite being blessed with feline attention it remained dark and murky, just like the terrible people at Casio intended.

Image

They also intended me to wear it forever on the original plasticky stiff strap, but J&K adapters for the reduced CasiOak also fit the reduced square, which enabled me to swap to a much better 20mm FKM tropic, despite hearing these terrible people yelling at me in the background, presumably calling on their ancestors and cursing me for messing with their perfect design. I don't speak Japanese so I'm just guessing. Also, I don't care.

Image

It might not be the best from an esthetic POV and it also extend the lug's distance by a few millimeters, but it's still a better fit than the original strap.

Image

At least it's not very obvious to the naked eye once it's on my wrist.

Your furry friend is obviously quite a character, Claude. So glad he's none the worse for his fall from the balcony. It will be interesting to see how his tastes in watches evolve 😹

Yeah, it could have ended in a much worse way since I live on the 4th floor.

I think that if someone ever manage to make a watch from a real tuna can, and not just take a standard watch wrapped it in a shroud and call it done, then it might be the exit watch for the furry idiot.

Very nice size and strap 👌

The GM-S5600 is the smallest "true" square G, but it doesn't accept straps made for the full size squares and therefore - adapters.
