Getting it right with the GM-S5600 & the JaysAndKays adapters.

I managed to solve one of the two main peeves I had with the diminutive GM-S5600, which was its horrid "resin" (aka plastic fantastic) strap. Stiff, skin irritating, sweat collecting, uncomfortable to wear, I just had it up to here with this miserable excuse for a strap.

Image

My previous experiment with a G-Shock leather strap from Vario was a failure since these are intended to fit the larger squares, and just before I was ready to splurge for a custom made strap I thought of trying a set of adapters from JaysAndKays.

They didn't have one for the GM-S5600, but they had a set for the reduced "CasiOak", the GMA-S2100 and I thought that it was worth a try.

My suspicions that the end links were the same for both reduced versions proved to be correct. The fit of the adapters is almost perfect.

Flipping the watch shows the way the adapters fit and there are no gaps between the lugs or room for wiggles, despite being intended for another model.

They also came with a pair of quick release spring bars, which made it a snap to fit in.

Although they are black, and therefore may restrict me in the choice of strap's color, they are also intended for 20mm straps, which means that I have now a wider range of options for the GM-S5600.

I decided to try the DASSARI Tropic FKM strap from Strapsco. The FKM rubber is a bit strange to touch but is also very supple and doesn't irritate my skin as does the plastic used by Casio.

It also allows the watch to lay flat on the table instead of bouncing around, which is a plus when I try to shoot photos.

Image

The supple FKM together with the adapter's articulation allows for the strap to follow the curves of my wrist and give a better and more comfortable fit.

Unfortunately the adapters are not miraculous and they were unable to improve on the contrast and legibility of the negative display, but I'm still considering this a big win.

Nice! I don't understand why people talk so highly of the resin straps on Casios, I found the one on my Casioak to be uncomfortable. I got similar adaptors and wear it on a double-pass nylon strap now, so much better. Also used them to use a very long strap (actually two 12 inch nylon straps connected together) that let me put it on the outside of a very thick parka in extreme cold. Worked great!

There may be resin straps from Casio that are comfortable to wear, but I have yet to wear one in close to 40 years of using G-Shocks.

None of my other G-Shock kept its original strap, the DW-5600E is on a Vario strap.

The GW-M5610U is on a combi-bracelet.

And I cheated with the GWM-B5000 because it came with an original metal bracelet.

The only G-Shock that I can't show is the old AW-560, one of the first ana-digi G-Shock offered by Casio, and that's because it's battery died and when I decided to change it I found that the strap disintegrated so I threw it away.

Casio makes excellent G-Shock, but their resin straps are simply terrible.

Looks good. My first thought was how well it blends into the black strap, but I guess it would be preferable if the adapter was case colored so it doesn’t show up so much on other color straps.

Unfortunately this black set was the only one available for the GMA-S2100 that also fit the GM-S5600.

If you’re feeling sassy, a little light sanding would give you a “brushed” finish.

Looks sharp! Same here for me too!
