G-Shock GST-B600...The G-Shock for the traditionalist watch enthusiast?

So I just acquired the new G-Shock GST-B600. It's the newest line in G-Shock's G-Steel series. And apparently it's the smallest G-Steel to date. I received it yesterday after purchasing from a Japanese importer as it still hasn't been released here in the US. I included a shot of it between the infamous Casioak and the previously "small" GST-B400 for size comparison. You can see it compared to what are generally seen as smaller G-Shocks.

Now according to Casio the GST-B600 was sized to attract the "traditional" watch buyer who may not always look at a G-Shock due to their size. Now personally, I'm not sure which watch collector that is because I thought everyone was a fan of G-Shocks regardless of their sizes 😁. Admittedly there are G-Shocks that as cool as they may seem I avoid due to their size. But G-Squares are for EVERYONE. And as shown I bought the GST-B400 because it was the "small" G-Steel. I don't have the biggest wrist myself at about ~6.5" and I'm a big fan of the current trend to smaller sized watches because they fit my wrist better. So when I heard about this release I was immediately onboard.

That said it seems that online this new release seems to be getting a little flak for being so small and not quite G-Shock enough. Obviously I don't agree and dont see a problem with G-Shock making more traditionally sized watches that aren't necessarily small because they are marketed for females.

So my first impressions are great job G-Shock. I'm not saying every G-Shock need to be smaller but I think this is a really good release and I see where Casio is going with this "traditionally" sized G-Shock. Which is why I included a second comparison shot between a DressKX and my Nodus Sector Pilot which are much more "traditionally" sized at 40 and 41 mm respectively. It really is a G-Shock that more easily blends into a traditional sports watch. And I don't think it necessarily takes away from it being a G-Shock at all. I included the DressKX because my thought was this new GST-B600 might be the Dress-Shock? D-Shock?

Anyways thought I would share some comparison shots of this new mini G-Shock. I think this new G-Shock is going to be getting quite a bit of wrist time.

You know, I just got the 2023 G Shock ICERC square, and it is also a smaller size, with a case that is 40mm wide.

Glad to hear your impression, as reviews on this watch are few and far between. I'm not too crazy about the screws on the bezel but happy to see an alternative to the CasiOak. I believe that the initial complaints were that the digital display wasn't big enough to fit the information that would normally be found on the CasiOak. The one with the purple dial is intriguing, to say the least, but I'm waiting to see if a rose gold version is in store for the spring/summer...

Great colors on that. Hard to go wrong with a G-Square.

I could someone having an issue with that based on first impressions, but as you can see it really is physically smaller than the Casioaks. A similar sized digital display woul have cramped up the dial. They possibly could have done two digital displays to show more info. Even I thought they could have used the space near 3 o'clock to show say seconds like on the GST-B400. But I think they did a good job given the real estate they were working with.

I could easily see more colors coming. I just hope it has enough success for Casio to continue with the line or evolve this "traditional" watch size concept.

I agree wholeheartedly! Tough solar and Bluetooth are a great upgrade from the 400...

Cool looking G-Shock but traditional watch enthusiasts don't generally buy G-Shocks and traditional watch enthusiasts don't need no steenking bluetooth.

Lol, it's the wave of the future. I don't want to wait for a radio signal (if at all) to get accurate time. 😊

This, my friend, is also up my alley. On the list as they say. Cant wait. Send photos when u can on your wrist as we are equal in sizing. Congrats to u and cheers!

So what was your first G-Shock? And how many are in your collection now? 😜

I have a Casioak and a 15 year old solar radio controlled (called the "rainforest") that still works as new,The rest have been sold.

I dislike my GA-B2100 because it's too big, but the purple version of the GST-B600 looks interesting.

Maybe there is finally a G-Shock I actually like.

Very cool. This watch just came onto my radar earlier today actually. Perfect timing. You’ll have to update with your thoughts on it

Early impressions are very good. Of course G-Shocks are generally well put together. This size really is great, I think it wears smaller than even the 42mm size it shows. More like a 39 or 40.

I do understand how for some part of the charm of a G-Shock is it's size and "rugged" ready look. Obviously I personally have been to able to manage some models despite their size. This model seems to wear more like a 39-40mm skin diver.

The purple one looks cool, especially with the dark bezel. hopefully we'll see some brighter dials and color matched rubber straps down the line.

Friggin beautiful!!!!

Btw, are the indices lumed on these watches?

Unfortunately just like on the CasioOaks, missed opportunity as only the hands have lume. Obviously it does have an LED backlight, so you can always use that. But they totally could have added some lume to the indices would have been nice, that flat surface on the indices at the top of the chapter ring would have been ideal spot for lume.

My thoughts exactly. This would have been perfect otherwise. Casio lumed the indices on the full metal CasiOaks, so I was hoping that they also did it with this line. Thanks for taking the time to respond!
