Seiko SRPE51K1 “DressKX” Review

My first automatic watch. Typically some of my friend start with diver watch as their gateway into this watch thingy, but I cannot get my eyes over this one when I first bought it. I know I want to start with Seiko 5 sports lineup, but I didn’t really like the looks and specs of the SRPD line. And for me this watch is such an ingenious move by Seiko. As simple as taking out the bezel from their SRPD style and creating a fresher looks. Some people call it DressKX, I think some even call them BBKX in resemblance to Tudor BB41. Still look sporty, but you can easily dress it up or down. With 40mm diamater, a size that’s rarely happen in the 5 sports lineup. I believe smaller size watch is going to be the new trend, and this watch probably signifies that perfectly.
Although it lacks a sapphire crystal and a basic -not so good bracelet, but the dial is a thing of beauty. The photo didn’t do justice to represent it. A beautiful grey sunburst that reflects the light in a cool way, I can’t stop admiring it. I wish it had a screw down crown, although Seiko claimed that it has 100m water resistant. But this critic actually applied to all the Seiko 5 sports lineup. None of them had screw down crown. But we got a better movement inside, with second hand hack abillity.
And did I mention that it’s such a strap monster? Can’t go wrong with any looks. Here’s mine with a woven grey nato strap.

Is this watch an affordable one watch collection? Maybe it is. Strap it with Nato or rubber strap, and you can bring it to the field or the pool. Change it with a jubilee bracelet, and be confident in your office environment. Change it with a leather strap and your ready for more formal situation.
The problem I have with this watch now is that I can’t stop buying strap options for this thing 😅 so what’s your experience with this watch?

I agree, it is a nice looking watch for sure, and also very comfortable to wear. I have the blue version on a jubilee bracelet, and much enjoy wearing it to work.

Agreed, a flat sapphire crystal wouldn't cost much more. I personally don't mind the standard Seiko bracelets.

What I like about these SRPEs is their simple and straightforward design. Seiko didn't add things that weren't needed.

A sapphire crystal and screw down crown would've made this a world beater for sure.  This is a very comfortable watch and versatile to boot.  I love mine!

Going to get myself a jubilee bracelet now that you mention it. What kind of jubilee did you get, uncle seiko or anything else? Would love to see the pic

I got it from Long Island Watches, but I'm not sure where they got it from. Mine is quite solid, I can definitely recommend.

Love that you get the kanji day on yours!

The kanji wheel definitely added that little extra flair

Here is my one, on a zuludiver strap. It’s so simple and clean looking.

I just got mine recently and I want to swap out the stock nato to a dressier seatbelt style smooth one...is there any other option in natos? Should I try ribbed ones - does anyone have a pic with ribbed nato on their dresskx? I am not a fan of rubber straps at the moment.

·

I've been wearing mine with a ribbed nato lately. I thought it would be too thick and set the watch too high off the wrist, but I have found it has been more comfortable.
