DIY Vostok Amphibia modding - brushed case

Just saw a tutorial on YT on how to Do It Yourself brushing the head case of a Vostok Amphibia. It looks so simple, I had to tried it myself!

Using only a butter knife, first I put a plastic wrap around the watch so I won’t scracth the head. I guess I’m lucky the bezel is fairly easy to take off. Read some of the comments about people complaining on how hard the bezel is to take off and on.

And about the brushing itself, it’s fairly easy. Using the green part of scotchbrite, I just “paint” the head in a unidirectional motion. Just need some patience and diligent. Kinda like when your rendering a picture with color pencil, better to work it bit by bit.

And behold, for me the scubadude now looks so much better 🔥

Tx a lot! First time doing it, now I kinda want to do it again! Too bad don’t have another Vostok to mod…yet! 😅

Great job! It looks much better in brushed steel than polished. Looks like I'll need a new Vostok to try it myself.

Thank you! That’s my issue, it’s so satisfying I want to do it again but have no Vostok to work on 😅

Probably cheaper to do this than get a Vostok with the brushed 170 case which generally seems to cost more.

Probably, since a scotchbrite only cost a dollar 😅

Mind you, it’s not gonna be precise brushing as machine would, but it got the job done. And I have such a great time doing it, I get such satisfaction to wear something that I mod myself on my wrist.

I could never do that to mine because I'd end up wrecking them. I have used a small piece of Scotchbrite pad to get any glossy scratches out of plastic Swatch and Casio cases before now though by turning them matt with the abrasion.
