Elgin in the wild!

Saw this in the wild on Friday at my doctor's office. A male nurse was sporting it and it looked like pure class! He said a patient gave it to him a couple of years ago and, though he is not at all into watches, he loves it. Looked to be about 34mm, and it was on one of those expandable, stretchy bracelets like on my Timex when I was a kid (what are they called??). He got a kick outta me wanting a pic of it.

It says Elgin under that beautifully elongated 12, and SWISS under the baton at 6. Anybody know what it is or have a guess as to date of mfg???

Expansion bands are awesome, and they used to have all sorts of neat textured patterns, not just plain flat links like a Spiedel Twist-O-Flex.

This is odd as it clearly says Swiss on the bottom, but Elgin was domestic till the mid-60's. I'd assume this is hand wind as it doesn't say quartz or automatic or anything on the dial. My very amateur guess is late 60's to early 70's but better estimates will surely arrive soon.

I would hazard a guess it comes from the early 1960's recalling a deco style. Elgin stopped using its own movements exclusively in 1959 and made very few movements after about 1965. Because this says "Swiss" it will have an A. Schild movement of some sort. Elgin used Schild movements in the 1950's and 60's for some of its better watches.

THANK YOU! Expansion bands...I remember the name Twist-O-Flex! And I remember how they were great...until I started growing hair on my arms and they pulled it painfully! 😢😠
