Not a big post, but most hobbies that you might share with other people, you wouldn't know about because you'd have the ask them about it. Watches are different though. You see the watch and you can assume that if they're wearing a Zelos or Breitling they probably really lime watches. Underdog? For sure. Zodiac? 100%. Movement? They like watches but are fairly new so it hurts to break it to them ๐ I was at a Halloween party recently and a guy who was friends with the host was a tall quiet dude with his kid. However, I saw he was wearing a chronograph, so I asked him about his watch and what ensued was a good 10-15 minute conversation about watches. Others who were playing a group game teased us about not joining in but the guy retorted "Were just adults talking about our cool toys!" ๐คฃ Watches have such a unique way of starting conversations and I got to try out a Zodiac for the first time. Unfortunately he couldn't try on my Zelos because my wrist is waayyyy too small ๐ ๐คฃ Any of you peoples try on a strangers watch? Also, that Zodiac was a THICC boi hahaha

Only at meet-ups. Iโd be open to approaching someone if I spot a watch out in the wild under the right context. I also donโt want to make someone think Iโm going to rip them off . . . So no โhey, guy. Nice watchโ in a dark alley haha. In a restaurant? In some other safe public space with others around? Sure. I also I think certain brands are more likely to suggest a for sure enthusiast to me. I wouldnโt necessarily assume someone is a collector or someone who is really into watches if they had a Rolex or even an Omega on. They might be of course . . . But it just might be a thing they have โ a bit of wrist candy or inherited or a gift etc. If someone is wearing any brand from Glashutte for instance? Yeah, Iโm gonna bet that I can have a long chat with them.
Yes, I work in retail (vape shop) and have struck up a few friendship's because of watches.
I wear mostly my sm300 & have swapped a try on with a couple Breitling's, a Datejust, numerous Seiko's.
Got a customer who's into neo vintage stuff too, one of his , an Eterna , impressed me the most of everything I've tried.
Itโs always nice to have a watch chat!
