VINTAGE SEIKO QUARTZ are (criminally) underrated

Hi everybody,

I entered the watch world 3 years ago with a cheap seiko 5 like many. At first I was not really found of quartz, “mechanical>>everything..” this kind of stuff.

But when I began to dig I found out that the old quartz were really interesting due to their history, and one of the biggest brands associated with quartz is Seiko. At this time quartz was in fact associated with luxury, and new technology: that made some beautiful time pieces.

I have 3 vintage seiko quartz, from three different collections, one from a relatively affordable at the time (lord quartz), one is more high end (king quartz, yes the same king as in king seiko), and one outstanding superior quartz rated at 5s per year at that time (1979) which made it the most accurate movement in the past, and even until this day we didn’t go a lot further !

If you know anything or have some pieces to share I would love to see it :)))

My king quartz, I replaced the broken buckle with one from a gold plated model.

I love the UV patina on this one, this type of patina is common on these models.

And my superior, grail piece for sure

Little dots appeared on this one, it was originally textured but white. I like it, makes me think of straciatella.

I have a several vintage Seiko quartz watches from the 70's. They really are fantastic both inside and out.

My birth year watch is also a Seiko quartz. A 7A38-7290, made in February of 1988. These have jeweled, all metal movements that are very robust and built to last a lifetime. Definitely worth getting if you're in the market for a mecha-quartz chronograph.

Thanks! It's a 7546-6000. It has a nice funky 70's look to it and it's built like a tank!

Yeah, I noticed these Seiko Quartz analogs are dirt cheap, and the early quartz LCD values are starting to take off!

All beautiful beautiful watches that are so overlooked

Just noticed this thread. Yes, to vintage (or just old) Seiko quartz. Here's my SilverWave diver from 1978. Still running like a dream +/- 1 second per month.
