When you purchase aftermarket straps for your watches... Do you try to ensure that the strap will fit the factory buckle??

For example, pictured, I made sure the Fluco Blue Shell Cordovan straps taper was the same as the factory Furlan Marri straps, so I could move the Furlan Marri buckle to the new strap.

For some reason it feels more complete to me with a factory buckle.

The Longines Flagship comes with aa 19/18mm strap but I felt like a 19/16mm taper would be more elegant so I bought a 16mm Longines buckle to keep the factory look while having the new strap.

While I do have an extra Breitling buckle from the original strap on my Crosswind Special, I doubt I’ll ever install it onto another strap. When I bought my first replacement strap, not knowing any better because I was still new, I bought one from Breitling. Wow, OEM straps are so utterly overpriced in hindsight! Now, in addition to being triple the cost of a comparable aftermarket, they don’t even include the buckle!

As I have slender wrist I normally buy straps custom made on Etsy.

However Sinn straps are excellent value and are sold in a short length so for my Sinn watches I buy Sinn straps.

I’d be hesitant to remove the original buckle from the factory strap. Also, to be fair, I only recently realized that the buckle should match the tone of the watch case
