Watchspa refinishing - Opinions

I've had this Omega about 3 years. I purchased it second hand from Crown and Caliber. The watch is in great running order and pretty good condition as far as the age goes. It has scratches, dings etc as expected although not many are from me...

I've contemplated getting Watchspa to do a complete refinish of the watch and then finally purchasing the Omega steel bracelet - the one with the taper that was also used on some speed masters.

I know the community can be HIGHLY against refinishing of watches, especially ones that are of the vintage variety... Yes this is a vintage watch.

However I've wondered what Watchspa would cost and I wonder what having it refinished by them, since it's damn near factory or better quality, would do to value. Also would Omega throw a fit if I ever sent to them for a service afterwards..

Whats the communities thoughts, opinions etc?

If spa services can keep case form and edges, surface finish like the original then i am okay. Sometimes the hard damag/scratch on watches need to be recover 😬

Oh Watchspa on Facebook and Instagram... Definitely restores the factory edges, polish and brushing perfectly as far as I can tell. He specializes in Omega, Patek, AP and several others I believe

Then i think there’s no issue 😬

Never seen one of these before. Love the SeaMaster but always felt they were a bit.. ubiquitous? This bezel, GMT complication and Milanese bracelet make it really stand out from the crowd - an absolute stunner

Don't mess about, just send it to Omega. They'll do it & you'll have the peace of mind knowing it's been done properly. Really don't understand why you'd consider sending it anywhere else. It'll cost around £500, so not massively expensive given the value of the watch. 🤔👍

Well I'm fairly certain that Omega doesn't laserweld and simply polishes etc. Watchspa does full restoration of case edges etc.. but Omega would definitely have the parts for the movement as I'm sure there are some they'd prefer replacing.

If you use it and are likely to scratch it why get it polished so you can scratch it again. The first scratch is always the worst, why go through that again.

Why not? Especially if the use of laser welding means no loss of material and Id basically have a brand new, albeit vintage watch. The scratches and dings on it aren't all mine either so I'd get to start new stories for it by refreshing the finishing etc.

Laser welding seems a bit extreme unless it is really beaten up but it is your watch and your money so do what makes you happy.

Yeah I'm not sure laser welding is needed or not.. but that's just something that WatchSpa offers.. they do incredible work as far as I can tell on their Instagram... I just know Omega short of replacing the case wouldn't restore the original shape basically

I can't tell you how the market would react but I would likely pay more if the watch was restored well. That includes, if necessary laser welding and such. I am not familiar with watchspa, might be good but I can say.

He seems to be doing good work. Maybe too good 😉... I think these 90s Seamaster's weren't as precisely finished, especially the bezels, as the watches today. There is a constellation from that era in his pictures which seems to have a better defined case than the one I had, which was factory new 😬 I might be wrong though.
