Watch Shape Zodiac

One of the treats of going to a Chinese restaurant in the 1970's was the ubiquitous zodiac placemat that could tell you about yourself by your birth year as you ate. I am a horse, of course.

I think that the internet has provided me with the same thing for watches care of the Times of India. Author Sudhir Kove broke it all down in a 2022 article. It is science, and we must obey science, right?

Circular dials, we all have them.

"Circle Dial

The most universal shape stands for simplicity & purity and is close to perfection. Such people are idealists with principles, punctual and committed to everything related to life. Being organised & accurate is essential. Unfortunately, they expect others to be the same around them."

I feel much more pure today, in kind of an idealistic way.

"Square Dial

Despite being perfectionists, people wearing square dial watches do not wish others to be the same. Such individuals prefer bettering themselves with idealistic behaviour. This healthy behaviour can also make them rigid & emotionless in their approach towards life."

Wait, am I rigid and emotionless? Maybe...

"Rectangular Dial

Rectangular dials are of two types – a horizontal rectangle and a vertical one.

A person with a vertical rectangular dial is quick and prefers a healthier life. High on promises but low on delivery, these restless souls always need to be doing something. Long-term relationships or work is their trouble. There is no dull moment around them.

Those with horizontal rectangle dials are the opposite. Laidback to the point of being lazy, they underpromise & over-deliver, as they prefer doing one thing at a time. This too makes them hold on to relationships & people better."

Mr. Low On Delivery, that's me.

It is really remarkable how accurate all of this is.

Is this the sort of watch content that you crave? Probably not. Anyway, I have stuck some esoterica over at the Escapement Room (TER). You can find it here.

You’re half-man half-horse. 🦄 Go forth and deliver!

I'm year of the Snake. Also Slytherin. And I'm on the lookout for this:

There's a Chinese restaurant here in San Diego called "Fortunate Son." It's a hipster Chinese place - unapologetically kitschy, designed to dredge up nostalgia for the "bad" 70's and 80's Chinese restaurants that served Chop Suey and Crab Rangoon - monstrous dishes that no honest-to-god Chinese person has ever eaten.

I expect that if I ever set foot in that restaurant, they'll have those zodiac placemats, along with almond cookies and strips of 2-day-old deep fried wonton strips.
