My Seiko Grail - Seiko's Complicated Relationship with Chronographs

An older article (came out during the Olympic games last summer). It's an interesting read nonetheless: https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/this-singular-seiko-vintage-reference-points-to-japans-incredible-olympic-history

There's an interesting conversation in the comments about the current state of Seiko Chronographs. They did roll out new chronograph models in the Prospects line, but their resemblance to the Speedmaster doesn't strike me as uniquely Seiko (and are still pretty thick on the wrist). Why do you all think Seiko has held back on bringing back some of these more iconic yet unknown chronograph designs?
