Squale blancpain bund a marketing fail

I have always heard the fact that Squale used to make cases for blancpain, Doxa, Heuer and so on, but it is not that easy to find actual proof of this. So I wasn’t always 100% convinced it was an actual real story.

The other day I found a post on watchprosiate.com that compared the really rare blancpain 3H bund issued to the German navy to the civilian version both clearly based on a 1521 case variant.

Omg 🤯the civilian version looks just like the militaire 1521. I suppose that is the reason why it is called in this way.

So I have two questions at this point.

1-what game is Squale marketing team actually playing? They should spam these sort of pics and heritage left and right but clearly they don’t . Even on their website it says that the militaire is called like this because of a more sterile and more legible dial, and no mention to the 3h bund!?

2- the second pic is a AWC 40 pieces limited edition Squale bund. And imo it looks amazing. Why on earth would they not make this part of their collection? Imo they should put in their catalogue 1to1 re issues of some of their prestigious models like the 3h bund and the 20 atoms in the pics. They would sell like hot cakes and would definitely boost their reputation significantly.

What does everyone think about this?

I would very much like to see the brand elevated in its popularity among other watch enthusiasts.

Honestly, what holds them back, IMO, is the sterile dial.

While I think it's awesome that it was intentional, tracking minutes is useless with rebreathers, too many "have to have" a traditional divers elapsed bezel.

Nevermind that most not only don't use them, but honestly never move them off noon, except to give a perfunctory spin for a review.

I've considered the Squale, or Undone's Basecamp many times, just haven't pulled the trigger yet. I like how different a sterile bezel looks.

YMMV of course.

I love that sterile bezel. If they release a 1521 with that bezel I’ll probably get it straight away. Unfortunately they have only been using it on their master cases which are too big for me.

Could be some sort of non-compete clause with folks they have supplied so they need to rely on collectors / experts to speculate. Even without this, I don't think Squale can directly call out brands, it won't take any effort for the Swatch legal team to inflict pain on Squale.

I do wish Sqaule can gain the respect and popularity it deserves (yes, I believe the history and claims are true) however, I really feel they will stay small and for enthusiasts, which isn't a bad thing at all.

The alternative is they get bought out like what happened to Panerai with a massive marketing engine and improvements to quality (let's face it the Squale quality is just okay) but then you're probably looking at a $2000 1521 to start then in a few years $3000.

If Swatch or Richemont buys them, I do believe they can make this brand be the next Panerai, it's all about marketing afterall but if that really a good thing?

Great info - thanks!

Squale most definitely made cases for a number of brands including Blancpain.

Here are some vintage divers that were made by Squale including a prototype that was made for Blancpain (first one in the images below)...
