Before and after restoration

The clock is finished.

I'm quite happy with how it turned out.

The pictures show before and after. The main thing to see there is that now the case is nice and shiny again, we'll see how long it stays that way.

The only thing to do now is keeping an eye on it over the next days and weeks to see figure out it's actual power reserve (should be around 8 days) and regulate it. Not that anyone would notice if it gained or lost anything below a minute per day since it has no second hand.

It's also incredibly loud. I'll keep it as my desk clock for now.

So this is bare brass? As I had to look it up to jog my memory, I'll share that this is called a carriage clock.

yes, the case is bare brass. This is not a very expensive or high quality clock. It's very basic.

The movement however seems gilded, maybe but really the only indication for that is that it was not brown like the case. Interestingly the echappement seems to has been replaced at some point as it looks to be a good 100 years younger than the rest of the clock with a porte-piton-mobile and relatively modern looking jewels and screws. It has a manufacturers mark on it but I haven't looked it up yet

Yeah, I wouldn't dare to work on one without being trained to do it first because of the automatic winding mechanism.

I know a guy near me who is authorized to service them.

Depending on where you live, I'd advise you to bring it to an AD or a JLC certified service partner.
