Why aren't smooth seconds sweeps more common?

Real talk people like smooth seconds sweep, and I understand smooth seconds sweeps can be done with quartz as shown by Bulova Precisionist, but it eats through the battery quickly, so why can't they make solar quartz watches with smooth sweep...?

Actually even with the battery draining issue, why aren't quartz smooth sweep more common for watches?

I guess the overall demand outside of the world of watch nerds doesn't warrant it. People complain of having to change a battery every 3 years as a reason for not liking quartz. So I guess every 1 1/2 years would be out of the question.

I don't mind the ticking sweep. I seldom look at my watch long enought to even notice.

I love the look of the sweeping seconds hand but yes the battery life does suck. Good thing I can change my own batteries.

I think that back in the early days of quartz they had to make them with a dead-seconds movement to differentiate them from mechanical movements in order to avoid confusion or fraud? I heard something about it somewhere. (Excellent reporting, Tim! 🙄)

I STARE at my watches, being slightly mad, I suppose. So the quartz movement gives me the twitchies. 😂 And my favourite watch for a decade was quartz!

I've wondered why Timex hasn't used the VKxx mecaquartz yet. I would like to have a Bulova Precisionist but they are too costly for me.

this seems to be an unpopular opinion but I actually prefer the once-per-second tick of most quartz watches as opposed to a smooth sweep.

to me, ticking once per second makes more sense for a seconds hand than multiple times per second because the second hand is meant to measure exactly that - the seconds. you won't find me measuring things down to the second often, but it makes more sense for it to tick the same way we would normally count seconds, rather than multiple times per second.

Easy solution: Get a Spring Drive. The sweepiest of sweeps and no battery 😌
