I think if you are okay with the timex unusual bracelet size (hard to find any other straps that looks nice) the Timex Q chronograph is a very beautiful fun watch!
What exactly is your budget? Does it have to be a mechanical/automatic chronograph, or is quartz also an option? Do you have any hang-ups on size, brand, color, etc?
I see you are in the UK. If you want something a little offbeat, you may try Studio Underd0g.
If you want mechanical/automatic and it has to be VERY inexpensive, I would suggest looking at some of the other Chinese brands that use the ST-19xx movements. Sugess, in particular, makes several models at reasonable prices.
If quartz is OK, then you may want to look at the Orient Neo70s chronograph, the Bulova Lunar Pilot, or the Seiko SBTR027 (or similar models in other colors).
If you give us a little more information about what exactly you are looking for and why the 1963 doesn't do it for you, then we may be able to provide better suggestions.
There's a lot of variables here. Size? Thickness? Hand wound vs. Auto vs. Quartz? Interested to see what other suggestions come back. I'm on the look out for a thin panda.

Yeah that was one of the alternatives I saw that I quite liked!! What's the build quality like?

I think you need to narrow your options down. You can go three routes:
Microbrands that also utilize the same Seagull ST19 chronograph movement. You have Baltic, Lorier, Hemel, etc
Seiko and Microbrands using the VK64 mecha-quartz movement. Too many to list probably.
Several brands using common quartz chrono movements.

My choice would be Strela. Great history and from personal experience great service. I also quite like the watches. ST19 movements I believe.
