Adding holes to straps

Hi all,

I have some leather straps I would like to add holes to in order to get the perfect size for my wrist.

I know there are tools to do so for belts, but I also heard they do not work for watch straps because they are way too big.

So, what do you do to fit straps to your size?

Take it to a local watch repair shop and I’m sure they will adjust it for very little money.

If it’s a cheap strap, and you’re good with (/trust?) your hands an Awl might work.

Yeah, nobody is going to be looking at the little extra hole in your strap on the underside of your wrist. Shit, they don't even notice your watch, so I agree with Sam.

But if appearance is still a concern, you can get one of these:

I will consider this option for the straps I like the most 😄

The difference between this and the one above is that here I can adjust the size?

Yes

I bought a set leather punch with different hole sizes on Amazon ($6.99). With my first try I misaligned the new hole with the existing holes. It was also one size too large. With a proper ruler and a few practice whacks, I am comfortable with it now. The punch rods work with rubber and leather strap.

They look interesting, thank you

I’ve used drill and small bit

I use the punch type as above. I generally use 1mm so as to not bridge the gap between holes too closely. Most tangs will go through, even bigger ones with encouragement.

Good luck if you try. 👍
