Rolex dropped the ball at Watches and Wonders this year

Word on the street is that Rolex dropped the ball at Watches and Wonders this year. While it’s hard to quantify, I’m not the only one who’s disappointed by Rolex’s approach to the event - Rob Corder hit the nail on the head with his take.

I hate these overly dramatic headlines. Rolex catered to a different clientele this year with Grails. Even if they dropped 50% in market share, they’d still be the #1 brand. Rolex didn’t drop nothing! They knew exactly what they’re doing.

Not every company needs to release a groundbreaking or controversial new watch every year. And it’s fine to have a soft splash for a diff crowd vs a large one. Rolex will be fine haha 😂 I get that trying to produced something new often is sort of the model . . . And creating false hype and scarcity and limited editions is a way of surviving a world that doesn’t give a shit about luxury watches by appealing to collectors . . . But it can all be so tiresome. Oh, the same watch in a slightly different color. Okay. Ahh, the sunray finish you say? Noted. And an engraving in the back that says sucker? Sold!
