Mühle Glasshütte Hits The Jackpot On Their 30th Birthday

It’s a shame that more people don’t rave about Mühle Glasshütte’s watches. After all, this family-founded-and-run business manufactures some of the most underrated timepieces in the world and has been doing so for quite some time. Officially, the Mühle family’s work in horology dates back to the 1300s but the company, as it’s known and registered today, has just celebrated its 30th anniversary with the release of an extraordinarily understated ticker - the 29er Big Bronze Edition 1994.

A 42.4mm polished bronze housing wraps around the striking ‘Mühle Blue’ dial, the seemingly unending depth of which is broken up by polished gold applied indices. Lumed baton hands only add to the perfect legibility of the watch, while tasteful flourishes of red in the date window and on the seconds hand create a sense of detail that’s far more impressive than it has any right to be. This is a very complex design disguised as something simple which, anyone with experience will agree, is a challenge to accomplish. It’s edgy and masculine while somehow still being a very passive, under-the-radar piece and if you’re into nautical watches, you’re probably wiping the drool off your chin right now.
