Ming just (probably) released the world’s lightest mechanical watch

There are very few things that watchmakers can do to lighten their timepieces - advances are made in micrograms instead of grams because honestly, we’ve gotten too good at making stuff.

Enter the Ming LW.01, the new lightest mechanical watch in the world. At just 8.8 grams for the manual winding movement, the LW.01 achieved the near-impossible thanks to some very clever engineering. There’s no dial, there’s not even a ‘full’ case. There’s just a ring of Magnesium-Aluminium-Zinc-Manganese (say that 3 times fast) that’s even lighter than Carbon. Gorilla glass stands in place of sapphire above the modified ETA 2000.M1 movement, which reduces heaviness even further.

If you’re still not convinced, know this - Ming included a moving star at the center of the watch solely to show wearers that the watch is indeed working. It’s so light, you’d think there’s nothing inside the damn thing.
