It’s not you, it’s me…

Oh boy, another anonymous internet rant about the Swatch X Blancpain collab. Well, not exactly…

I personally don’t give a hoot what you buy, wear, enjoy, or even hate when it comes to watches. Everyone is different, and thus personal taste varies widely from one individual to the next. So I won’t be judging a single person I see enjoying their new purchase. What I will do is throw the most shade at greedy pigs who waited in line to buy these things to end up flipping them on eBay for insane prices.

$1,500 dollars for this thing is disgusting. $800 for it is abhorrent. Anything other than retail is just silly to me. Ultimately, a product is worth whatever people are willing to pay for it. But my only advice is to not empower the scalpers by paying 3 times what it should be selling for, especially not the day it’s released.

If you really want one and weren’t able to stand in line for it, wait it out and hope that eventually the hype will die down and reality will set in: nobody bought a Blancpain today, they bought a Swatch. Prices will likely resettle after some time as they did with the Moonswatch.

That’s all, carry on! If you were lucky enough to snag one today for retail, congrats on your new purchase! 🍻

If I really wanted one I’d have to have a day off and pay a fortune to travel to London on the train this would be a £500 day for me on top of the watch price so £800 for one is break even for me if I want one enough. No different to someone getting a Pepsi gmt for way over list and that’s goes on all the time. Are you throwing shade at every greedy watch dealer ?

I hear what you’re saying and understand that everyone’s access to a Swatch store is limited. The closest one to me is about 6 hours away. So in that case, if you’re clambering for one, paying 2x retail could make sense. To answer your question, yes. While the market dictates price, it’s fair to say that it wouldn’t look the way it does without greedy/shady grey market dealers and their antics. Like I said, the true value of something is in the eye of the beholder, so I’m not going to judge anyone for being willing to pay that much over retail for a Pepsi or any other desirable watch. I am however passing judgement on those who deliberately take advantage of a person’s desires in order to turn a ridiculous profit.

It’s not just dodgy grey market dealers take the price of Rolex official pre owned. Is it ok for watchfinder or watches of Switzerland to treble the prices if the market will bear it but not for individuals looking to make a few pounds for themselves or family. If anything you should be angry with the people paying the price not the seller as without customers there wouldn’t be these high prices and that goes for individuals with £800 swatches or major retailers with £100k Daytonas

Just wait till they are on AliExpress. It’ll be the same watch from the same Chinese factory anyways.

I think it’s safe to assume that the majority of people selling a Swatch for triple the retail price aren’t doing so for the safety and security of their families. Whether it’s a no-date Sub or a Swatch collab, the fact is that people are taking advantage of the demand and gouging the prices. The silver lining in this case is that these collaborations have brought a tremendous amount of attention to legendary brands like Blancpain and Omega from people who would have otherwise never considered owning them a possibility. Perhaps these are the most potent “gateway drug” into the world of watches ever produced.

Fair play, never even thought about that 😂

Yea I think we can agree it’s marketing genius 😂 while I’ve had a speedmaster or 4 since 2001 so it didn’t get me to buy a real one I did get two moonswatches. And I just can’t strech to a 50 fathoms so I won’t be having one of them it’s a fun thing for me to see.

Exactly, could not agree more

I’m glad we can agree on that! I definitely understand the pull that people feel toward these collabs. Between you and I, I really like the look of the Antarctic Ocean model lol. I doubt I’ll ever own one myself, but understand why people want to. Maybe one day 🍻
