My rather deep review of Casio W-800HG-9AVDF

I first let anyone vote about "Which watches should I review" in two polls and I did promise to count all votes now on Monday and this is the strange result...

And 17 did vote on my unique Casio W-800 with gold details, so I will naturally review that very special watch now...

8 did then vote on the amazing black skeleton - that I not got yet, so I have to wait a moment with that review... And 6 did vote on my dream Casio 200m... Another 6 on my Casio altidepth meter, 4 on my slim Skagen titanium, 2 on my Fossil chrono 100m, 2 on a grand review of the finest designs I seen and only 1 on my delicious Invicta 100m chrono!

THE HISTORY

I had already my slim Skagen, but I was beginning to renovate a power catamaran and my elegant Skagen, was only 30m water resistant and too rare to damage by mistake...

Image

So I began to seek a smart beater - that must be cheap, rather good looking and at least 100 m water proof...

THE WATCH

And I did soon find Casio W-800HG-9AVDF on eBay... Which in addition offer a 10 years battery life, a great looking golden display, first some nice golden details (now more like copper, see my inital photo) and a very special advantage, that I was searching for over 40 years...

This digital model show actually every time information directly, even the year, without pressing any extra buttons... Okay, Casio biggest (or monster) calculator watches - do that too, but none of all the digital G shock show that much directly!

That mean also that it can show two times, at the same time or what the time is, when you use the stop watch...

Image

Then is W-800 also an alarm chronograph, 37mm wide (40,4 with the rather big buttons) 41mm high (between the strap) and have a 13.4mm FAT plastic case, with sensitive scratch inviting (not recessed) plastic glass and a lousy plastic strap, with a hopeless trap holder that moves away all the time!

Image

And it is extremely accurate, within a second per 3 months...

And I only had to pay 192 sek (about 17 euro) 2019

THE BAD ASPECTS

Is mainly the incredible 13.4mm FAT case (!!!) especially when I own a 30 year old digital Casio that is only 6mm slim (with metal case, the one below) so they should be able to do clearly better...

Image

Then did I naturally scratch the sensitive scratch inviting (not recessed) plastic glass... So I had to buy another one, to have as reserve and they have become VERY RARE so that one did cost 478 sek with Swedish customs (about 42 euro) from Israel 2023

And here can you see some of the 10 to 20 micro scrathes, if you only click my photo and then zoom in...

Image

And the lousy plastic strap, with it's hopeless trap holder that moves away all the time - is another problem... But I did just order a fine black stainless bracelet for my beaten one and a truly delicious bracelet for my new reserve...

Image

Yes I know, it's a bit over the top... But it's for a very rare and unique digital watch!

ALTERNATIVES

There is a cheaper version of the same watch, with a gray display and blue details, which many here in WatchCrunch LOVE and a rather rare version, with a black display and gray digits...

Otherwise is there no other digital watch - that combine a display that show every time info directly, with 100m and 10 years battery.

AND I WOULD ACTUALLY LOVE

A very slim (5 to max 8mm) digital watch, made of solid black titanium OR ceramic, with a black display that show golden numbers & letters... Almost like the most elegant RADO watches... Or a golden display with black number & letters...

With a 36mm wide and 40mm high case, with an elegant soft bevelled edge (as the Casio's above or Casio Royale) and a 28mm wide 30mm high scratch resistant crystal...

That first show - the name of day - at top and then - year, month & date - as the second line and then with clearly bigger numbers - HOUR, MINUTE & SECOND - as third line and finally - the Function (as DL for dual time, AL for alarm C for temperature and so on, plus) Hour, minute & second or the temperature - as the last line...

And it may also be partly analog, with elegant hour minute second hands over a black dial with physical gold dots for each five minutes and golden numbers & letters for year, month, date, day and the other info... So I get max info, without extra key pressings... And it should naturally be 100m water resist and have minimum 6 to 10 years battery OR solar on the 22x3mm titanium OR ceramic solid link band... And the band should also have a new type of lock, that not make it thicker... So it would be both smarter and more elegant than any other digital or digi-ana watch... And naturally be mass produced for 88 to max 222 euro!

The nice Casio W-800HG-9AVDF above - show all time info, are 100m and have 10 years battery life... But it have a plastic case, plastic "crystal" and are incredible 13.4mm FAT - without even being a G shock!

And 30 years ago, did Casio make [449] SA-70G with a 6mm thin metal case... But that one does not show every time info directly, are not even 50m water resitant and have probably only 2 years battery life!
