collecting mishaps

I haven't gone down the rabbit hole of watch-collecting that far yet, but...

I have been collecting other stuff over the years, and one thing that happened to me when my collections exceeded a certain size is that I accidentally purchased items I already possessed an identical version of. So, I would move on to use spreadsheets and even databases to keep my collections organised; not solely for the purpose of avoid buying dups, but it is one of the reasons.

Has this ever happened to you with your watch collection? Have you ever bought accidentally a watch you already had? Did you need to resort to databases or spreadsheets to keep an overview of what you've got?

I started a spreadsheet because my impression was that I owned too many of the same type of watch (1940's tank watches).  I didn't have duplicates but I may have had too many similar Bulovas.  The info on the spreadsheet is also helpful to diversify sizes (how many 30mm round watches can you possibly wear?) and when ordering straps.

Not with watches, but when I started doing that with records after buying my third copy of “Number of the Beast” by Iron Maiden.

If you have so many watches that you cant even keep track of what you have then it must be massive. I doubt there will be many people to ever get such a massive collection.

No, probably as in general i am not a very organised person lol

With that said i am fully aware of the fact that i bought two seiko king turtles🤣 damn it i hate seiko.

I haven’t done it accidentally (yet), but I do have a few duplicates.  I have G-Shock squares in several rooms, so I can readily slap one on to avoid damaging a nicer watch.

All my collecting mishaps have involved selling and sellers remorse, I never regret buying any…..perhaps that’s where I go wrong.
