Clones, anyone?

Your opinions, please. These two look awfully similar. The one to the left from West Switzerland and the one to the right from 'East Switzerland'. Both in titanium and with automatic movements. If you have seen both IRL, would you say there is a difference in quality? How come brand manufacturers do not enforce the rights to their designs?

Patents tend to last only 20 years. Most designs have their origen's from watches over 100 years old. There probably isn't a watch made that hasn't taken inspiration from someone else. Abraham-Louis Breguet could possibly claim every wristwatch is an infringement.

Homage, not a clone.

Yes buy what you like. Just stay away from a fake.

I don't mind most homages/clones. I bought am Invicta Rolex OG Submariner homage. I don't like the homages of the Tudor Pelagos I've seen, though. They can't get the indices exactly right. They're always too blocky or thick and aren't able to truly capture it

Seestern is an amazing brand! Super high quality.

What is your definition of quality ?

Thanks for your views, I am curious about how almost identical products can be marketed and haven’t made up my mind about clones or homage watches. You are right that Submariners etc are 70+ years old but the Pelagos was launched in 2012. Not certain whether the brands have tried to file design patents with USPTO or EPO or tried to enforce trademarks.

What is your definition of quality ?

I’m not sure about that definition. Isn’t quality perception discussed all the time on watch fora? What do you think?
