It’s all other people’s fault, of course. I always loved watches was obsessed with reading watch magazines in my teens. Then my Dad bought me a Tag F1 for my 18th birthday - and it all went downhill from there. Since then, my wife bought me several nice pieces, including a Reverso and a Junghans Max Bill. Sometime in my 30s, it all came together and became an obsession.
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
A Mickey Mouse quartz watch, bought from the local market. The man who owned the stall looked like Kenny Rogers. I’m fairly sure it wasn’t him.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
But what you like, not what you think you should have. I made the mistake when I started collecting and regretted it. And probably lost a bit of money too.
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
Fears, because they’re small and independent but absolutely exceptional when it comes to elegance, quality and finishing. And Christopher Ward, because they’re entering a new phase of their brand - starting to punch well above their weight. Also keen to get to know Armin Strom a bit better…
