My #1 Vintage Timex Watch - 1958 Viscount

Starting strong - here's my #1 favorite vintage timex, its a viscount, meaning an automatic movement. This dates from 1958 and can be seen in the literature from this era. The watch is stout but large for a timex of the time and houses the m29 automatic movement.

Check out the diual which has radial grooves on it like an old LP record. its stunning. These dials were stamped and the markers coloured after. They also have radium lume so radioactive. You dont want to breathe this stuff in.

It wears great on the wrist.

They also made a gold plated case version which i also have but as with most old gold timex. the plating has worn away and the case heavily scratched.

Like "waterproof" instead of water resistant or some depth rating, I prefer the term "self-wind" to automatic as well.

This is one of those dials that looks simple but the more you look, the more neat little things you notice. That's good design. It whispers and reveals slowly.

yeah they made the switch from the bold claim of being water proof to the lamer water resistant later in the 60s. that radium lume still holds its charge. tho not for very long lol.

Beautiful. Mine's a simple leather strap watch that I got as a gift from my grandfather. It's not an expensive one, but it has sentimental value to me, so I treasure it. It's an old watch that has been in the family for a long time, and I don't think it has any branding on it. However, it resembles a Timex of the classic designs of watches from the 1900s.
