The Gateway Drug
One of my favourite pastimes since high school has been catching up with friends over some shisha. Countless hours have been spent laughing, recounting stories, and debriefing while drinking tea and relaxing in smoke-filled rooms.
On one such night in 2018 I spotted this watch, an SNK809, on my friend’s wrist. It was likely the smallest and most understated watch I had remembered seeing at a time where giant watches were all the rave.
My intrigue only grew even more once he told me that he wouldn’t ever have to change a battery on it. What I believed to be sorcery ended up being my gateway into this crazy (expensive) hobby of ours.
2 months later, I put this same watch on my family’s Secret Santa wishlist, and receivied this very same watch for Christmas that year.
Safe to say that as far as first mechanical watches go, I could’ve done a lot worse!

I also have the SNK809 as my first "serious" watch since my childhood. But I can't find it anywhere. It annoys the hell out of me that I just can't find it. So I am in the market for a new small field watch.

Well I am terrible at making decisions, but a few I find interesting are Timex Expedition North Solar, or a Militado. Maybe even cheaper and get a Lorus.. can't really decide...
