1946 Rolex bubbleback. Belonged to my grandfather, a longtime vintage Rolex collector, who introduced me to watches/the hobby. Perhaps it’s because my collecting began with vintage, but I think—as this bubbleback shows—the conventional wisdom that sub-36mm watches are “too small” is ridiculous. I will happily wear my 40mm GMT and 42mm Speedmaster, but my old, “tiny” watches are just as fun and enjoyable, albeit for very different reasons.
