I wear it with everything from flip flops to formal attire—the rose is obviously a bit flashy, but I wouldn’t classify it as a dress watch, as many tend to do; it’s just a bonkers watch that I am happy to wear in any scenario (save those where weather or social setting call for something else), and it can be dressed up or down, depending on what you want and what you feel comfortable with. To be honest, I carry around a hard two-watch roll from Q most days, with either the Breguet on my wrist and the Pelagos in the roll, or vice versa, and I sometimes switch back and forth several times per day. I find that that covers the bases well and gives me good flexibility (and fun 😋). Hope that helps! (PS the 7057 is, ofc, great as well, I just prefer the dimensions and design of the 7027, both of which suit me and my wrist better than the 40mm cases of the successive references, complicated [like the Quantieme Retrograde] or otherwise. Just go for what fits you best—all I can say is you won’t regret picking one up, should you choose to do so.)

Thank you! It is really great quality and well made. Definitely a bit of a cost premium over other companies (CNS, etc.), but I think you get what you pay for. Cheers! 🍻

commented on They say: Tudor is the poor man’s Rolex. ·

The adage was far truer from the ‘50s to the ‘90s than it is today. Now it 1.) is a cliche used by insecure, obnoxious Rolex chauvinists and 2.) entirely misunderstands how even *Rolex itself* positions/employs the brand in today’s market. Tudor now occupies the space Rolex carved out between the ~50s up until the five-digit era, when it began moving further up-market. Now, Tudor is becoming the Rolex brand that no longer exists.

The Pelagos/P39 is a perfect example; Tudor has case finishing, chronometry, and vertical integration on par with Rolex, while also using more experimental (some might even say more interesting) materials/styling, which stays true to the pre-super case Rolexes/Tudors it draws inspiration (and, for the P39/BB, proportions) from. People also say they’re “siblings,” or “sister brands,” which is, like the “poor man” line, outmoded nowadays. If anything, they’re more like first cousins than siblings, and you can appreciate them for different reasons.

I have several vintage Rolexes (left to me by my grandfather), along with a Batgirl, and I enjoy my P39 just as much as anything with a crown on the dial. If anything, I like that the Pelagos is under the radar and a real “iykyk”. Some people wear watches (especially Rolex!) to posture or make a statement to others. I wear my watches for me, and Tudor is a better fit for that on several counts. Still love my Rolexes, they’re great watches, but the brand baggage sucks—and Tudor has none of it. The “poor man” in this scenario is the poor schmuck concerned with being an elitist keyboard warrior. Missing out on some great watches… their loss 🤷🏻‍♂️
