Have You Checked Your Watch's Value Lately?

I just wanted to start off by saying that I do not buy watches with the train of thought that once I buy it, a few years later the watch that I paid $$ for is now worth $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. You know what I mean? I buy my watches because I like the way they look, and they are within my budget etc.

But I just checked the original price of my Marathon JSAR 46mm from Ebay. Brand new with box and all @ $765 USD. A few years later, the watch is going for $1,200 USD on their official website. On Ebay is pretty much the same.

I was in shock as to how much that watch has increased in value. Has anyone else here done this and felt the same way I did?

Let us hear your stories!

I bought my Seiko 5 SNK805 for like 90$ from Amazon. I see them now ranging from $150-$250 depending on color.

Less dramatic than yours but same principle. Didn’t buy that watch to sell (I will probably always keep it). But it has doubled in value in some cases. Crazy.

Crazy thing ain't it. Chalk it up to inflation. I recently check the running price for a secondhand quartz SMP 212.30.41.61.01.001. They're running $3.2k - $3.5k on C24. Much more than what I paid for a new one back in 2008, +/- $2k.

It's actually a better return. $765 to $1200 is a 36% increase. $90 to $250 is a 64% increase.

Way to pick 'em.

Now that’s what I can a good ROI lol.

Again I didn’t pick it for that reason. It was my first automatic, and my first watch ‘as a watch guy’ after watching a bunch of videos on YouTube.

Just interesting to see how all these first watch budget options aren’t as budget as they used to be😂

The thing is new ones could triple but used ones will only sell for what someone's willing to spend. A site could vale it for $1200 but in real world you might get $300.

I did check, as a friend made a comment about wasting my money on watches and the one I was wearing has increased by about 25%

Watches aren't "investments" but I do consider future staying power when I make the purchase

I just bought a JSAR from an AD and not Marathon. Mine was $795. Marathon lists them for $1,200 but offer discounts and have sales all the time. For under $1k you can get one new with the upgraded 3pc strap. You really got to do some homework. There are quite a few overpriced used pieces on eBay.

According to chrono24 my collection of seikos, Casios and an invicta has me up nearly $80 to total value just over $400! 23% growth over the last year, I’m rich!

And having acquired some of these investments at less than market value I stand to make a tidy profit if I were to liquidate. Nearly 74%!

I paid just over 5 USD equivalent for this.

This dial is super rare, so it's only worth what a collector is willing to pay. My educated guess is ≥1000 USD judging from the recent crazy price hikes of vintage Nivada Antarctics.

Oooo I like that funky layout of the indices

I've never even seen the used value of any of my watches.
