Why is the Omega Aqua Terra Shades Collection more expensive?

Hi,

In 2022 Omega released a line of Aqua Terra watches with different fun dial colors. They called them “Shades” or something. I was looking one up and saw it was $400 more expensive than an identical watch with a slightly different dial. I thought this alone wouldn’t account for a different MSRP, but I looked at all the specs, and they are completely identical, down to the movement used, case and bracelet material, etc. Does anyone know why there is such a premium on them? Is it truly because of the dial? It's a nice dial for sure but it's not some sort of fume enamel process or a Grand Seiko dial.

These models copied Rolex newly introduced colours on the OP line. The Rolex connection makes them instantly more valuable.

don't quote me on this, but i believe it's a slightly different bracelet.

Probably because the dial cost more to make if it’s not a “standard” Aqua Terra dial…

There's some difference. The 2022 AT dial production differs.. According to Hodinkee

...10 dial colors are the result of an individual vapor deposition process, either chemical (CVD) or physical (PVD)

And different bracelet design too.

Is all that worth the extra $400? I think that depends on you tbh.

Because individually those changes don't warrant such a steep jump in price.

But looked at a whole GADA package, it does make a compelling argument for entry level luxury.

My guess is that they're planning to raise the price to the entire watch collection. Take the Speedmaster as example, it got a price bump when they switched from cal 1861 to 3861.

I think something similar is going to happen with the Aqua Terras, the "old" models are going to slowly dissappear and then we'll get a base price of USD 6300

I’m worried about this. Another friend pointed out this theory and it doesn’t make me happy.

Yeah but the $5900 can be considered even more of an entry GADA luxury watch. If Omega tries to move up market they’ll eventually price people out.

I mean... inflation rates has been increasing on every country after COVID. That could be their justification 😭
