I’ve always loved watches. With the advent of watch channels I really got into it.
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
Timex Ironman Triathlon
Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?
When I was in high school, I bought a pretty simple Citizen quartz watch for my dad on his birthday. It was probably less than $100 but at the time but it was quite a bit of money for me. Years later, after my dad retired and moved onto to an Apple Watch, I found the Citizen in a drawer at his house. I asked for it and even took it to the store where I bought it from to get a new battery. The watch is tiny (34mm) and all scratched up. It’s just big enough for my wrist. I love wearing it, especially when I feel like I need a reminder of how hard my dad worked for his family all the years he wore it. My collection has grown quite a bit since then but this watch will always be my favorite.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
If you have to convince yourself that it’s an investment, don’t buy it.
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
Islander. Tudor. JLC. IWC. Zenith. Grand Seiko (Snowflake). Citizen.
